Jim's Place

Welcome to my personal home page.  Here you will find a sampling of my life.  Pictures, hobbies, links and yes, even my resume can all be viewed here.

I hope you find something useful and/or enjoyable.  I have made an effort to keep these pages simple and fast loading to make your stay more enjoyable.  And, of course, these pages will continue to be under construction, probably forever. I will try to keep the resulting annoyances to a minimum.

After a great start this effort was set aside due to a variety of other pressing issues. But I am happy to finally say that I am back at it. This latest update finally sees some of my photography coming on line plus another goody or two that I had promised.

Please note that since the pages are under continuing construction, many places that should be links just aren't.  All active links will be indicated either with an underline or similar notation, depending on your browser settings.  Also, when your cursor moves over a link, the cursor should change (mine changes to a hand).

To avoid cluttering up everything with 'under construction' banners (IE: to speed up loading), here is the one under construction icon that is inclusive for all my pages!

Below is a summary of items that you can find in my web pages. Each line is a link to that section.

 Late Breaking News/Updates

I Finally Shipped Products{ new 02-01-02 }

After nearly fifteen years in electrical engineering experience doing research and working for startups, I am more than happy to annouce that products that I have been involved with have shipped. For details, refer to the My Professional Life section below.

This section used to just contain my resume (still does) but it also does a little show and tell (boasting) about what I do for a living.

Major Page Update [ 11-04-01 ]

After a major delay away from my web page, I am finally back. Many new pictures and more. Enjoy!

JDH Software Technologies [ 11-04-01 ]

I am finally doing what I have promised for years. I am officially starting my side software business. Please see later in this sight for <additional information> and a link to my business page.

Job Change at Apple [ Summer 2001 ]

After a year and a half of learning the ropes and helping push technology in the iMac groups, I have moved back onto the high performance side and now work on a great team designing the Pro Desktop tower systems. New and better challenges everyday (can't get enough of them).

Kittens Everywhere [ Spring 2001 ]

Or so it seems. I have adopted two wonderful little kittens - Miss Molly and Joey Boy. They are brother and sistor and keep themselves and me all entertained. Check out the pictures in the gallery section!

Working at Apple [ 11-24-99 ]

As of December 1999, I started working for Apple Computer, Inc. as part of the IMAC development team! This is a really unique opportunity for me, fitting perfectly into my career path. I am being given the opportunity to be a technical lead on one of the next generation IMACs (and no, I am not talking beyond this single statement!).

In addition to being an exciting opportunity, Apple itself is a fascinating company. For anyone who has watched Apple over the years, the company has had its ups and downs. But for the last few years, Apple seems to have gone through a complete rebirth. Market wise, they are doing extremely well. All of the people that I talked to during the interview process were energetic, very sharp, and just plain fun.

Like I said, I am looking forward to this new set of challenges and have a very good feeling that I might have found a long term home!

News [ 11-10-99 ]

As of Oct 29, 1999, my previous employer Raycer, Inc. has closed down its engineering department and is in the process of being acquired by Apple computer.

 My Professional Life

{ changed 02-01-02 }

For nearly 15 years I have been working as an electrical engineer. However, most of that time has been working in research groups and for high risk start ups. While this means that I have learned an awful lot and been constantly challenged, it also has had the unfortunate side affect that I have never been directly involved in something that was shipped as a revenue making product (came close a couple of times).

Until now. I joined Apple Computer, Inc. just over two years ago. My family and friends have regularly asked what I was working on and the most that I could say was an iMac and then a Power Mac G4 system. But I couldn't say anything else. Until now. In less than a month's time, two products that I have been heavily involved in have shipped. Follow this link to a page which allows me to do a bit of bragging on this accomplishment, pictures included!

For those curious about what I have been doing for so long without shipping products, here is a link to my resume (use your <BACK> button to return here.  I am happy to say that I am NOT looking for a job. This resume is here stricktly to give an insight as to my professional background (and idea of fun). I am currently (and for the long run if I have my way) working for Apple Computer, Inc., where I have more than enough challenging and exiting things that I am working on. Please do not contact me with employment opportunities.

JDH SoftwareTechnologies

I have in the past created several software programs and currently have a major project that will hopefully go commercial (limited market) early next year.  The name of my software business will be JDH Software Technologies and I have registered an internet domain: www.jdh-stech.com.

My first product will be a modern desktop for the classic QL/SMSQE operating system. I do have some other projects that I expect to be of substantially more commercial interest on which I will start next year. All development on these upcoming projects will be done using Apple's OS-X operating system. I have decided to no longer develop under/for Microsoft Windows operating systems.

 Support

The following links go to my different support pages.  In working with different family, friends, and co-workers, I have found myself in a support role.  Hopefully these pages will develop into useful resources for those who have a need for help.

 My Highest Recommendations

I have done business with the following companies and people.  I can't recommend them more highly.  Please check them out!

If anyone has done business with someone really good, please send me an email. If I get a chance to do business with them and also find them helpful, I will add them to this list.

Real Estate

Helen Greve and Mary Paterson
Paterson/Greve Marketing Consultants

  Website : www.SiliconValleyHomes4U.com
  Email : HGreve@cbnorcal.com

These two wonderful ladies are based out of Menlo Park, CA. They made finding my first home in Redwood City into a simple and actually fun time!

Oh yes, they got me to promise to adopt two cats next Spring when I get back from an extended trip. They did not have to try too hard!

Helen and Mary
 ... The Home Team

Michael LoMonaco

  Website : www.cbnorcal.com
  Email : mlomonaco@cbnorcal.com

This guy works in real estate in the South Bay area and is based in Los Gatos, CA. He helped me a lot during my early information gathering on buying a home. He was then kind enough and professional enough to recommend others who could help me buy my first home.

Financing

Ron Rosano
Loan Consultant

  Website : www.amerimac.com
  Email : ronrosano@AEM1.com

This guy handled all of the financial details of my first home loan and made sure that everything happened all the way to the final closing on the house. With the cost of real estate here in California and all the different details, it could have been an expensive nightmare. But with Ron's help the entire transaction was amazingly straight forward.

Links

The following pages offer links to different web sights that I have found useful.  If you have a problem with any of the links or have new links that I should add, please let me know.

You will also find that, unlike most sights that just blindly add links and at the most make sure that they are current, I am adding some additional information on each link that hopefully will be helpful. Let me know what you think and if there is any more information that might be useful.
